The Property Ombudsman
A free, independent dispute-resolution service for consumers in disputes with estate, letting, and property-management agents, operating since 1990 and one of two government-approved redress schemes UK agents must belong to.
Founded 1990 ยท Salisbury, UK
The Property Ombudsman (TPOS) has provided free, independent dispute resolution between consumers and property agents since 1990. Its role gained statutory underpinning for sales agents in 2007 and for letting/property-management agents in 2014: UK law requires agents in those categories to belong to a government-approved redress scheme, of which TPOS is one of two.
What It Does
- Investigates and resolves consumer complaints against estate, letting, and property-management agents
- Operates as one of two government-approved property redress schemes agents are legally required to join
- Publishes a code of practice that member agents must follow
